Tablecloth 54 x 84 in., banners 84 in. tall and 120 in. long. Each quilt block variable (9–12 in. square). Pieced tablecloth of gifted fabric, chain-stitched and pieced banners. Personal table, umbrella stands, and chairs. Brookings Quadrangle, Washington University. April 15, 2025.
Working with ideas of alternative publics, hospitality, visibility, and receptivity, Centerpiece is a participatory gathering between friends.
I asked each of the seven invitees, all of whom were from Southern and Midwestern United States, to bring a dish that reminded them of home. (Groceries on me, of course.)
At our lunch, each guest shared about their chosen dish and its personal significance.
